Surfskate CARVER Aipa Da Sting 30.75"
In 1974, Ben Aipa, the legendary surfer and shaper from Hawaii, wrote his chapter in surfing history with the design of the 'Da Sting', a very fast turning shape he originally made for Larry Bertleman. In 1976, after two years of refinement, the Sting made the cover of Surfer Magazine under the arms of Ben and two "Stingmen" surfers with a highly internalized skater style, Mark Liddell and Buttons Kaluhiokalani. According to Ben, "That cover made the Sting go viral, and it started to run like wildfire, changing performance surfing forever."
That's why I had to collaborate with the Aipa family to make a Carver Aipa "Da Sting" 30.75" surfskate model that achieves the same fast turning maneuvers and powerful pumping that we did on the asphalt in 1996. The Sugar Coat griptape features the classic flames blues imagined by Mark Lidell, inspired by the flames of the '57 Chevy Hot Rod, one of the surfboard designs that have gone down in history.
